Welcome to Rush Emergency Medicine! We are excited to announce that in 2017 we became the first new Emergency Medicine residency program in Chicago in over 20 years. As a 3 year training program, Rush Emergency Medicine will Match 12 applicants each year to become fully enrolled by 2019. Our academic emergency department sees 72,000 patients a year in a state-of-the-art, 40,000 square foot ED that opened in 2012. Rush Emergency Medicine proudly serves one of the most diverse urban communities in the country.

Our objective is to train outstanding clinicians who are prepared to handle any ED environment, and to equip them with the skills to be efficient, capable, and compassionate emergency physicians. As a Rush resident, you will be trained in one of the most modern Emergency Departments, in one of the highest ranked academic hospitals in the country. Our faculty are experienced educators, with expertise in simulation, ultrasound, research, and informatics. Our brand new simulation center, located next to our department offices and staffed by Rush Emergency Physicians, is fully incorporated into the didactic curriculum. We have longstanding programs in disaster management and Rush is a designated mass casualty receiving facility. Existing fellowships in ultrasound and simulation are a testament to the teaching mission in our department.

We strive to uphold the mission of Rush University, and create a learning community where students, faculty, residents and fellows of all backgrounds feel welcome and supported. Our program actively seeks out residents that reflect the diverse nature of our patient population, and encourages applicants from backgrounds that are under-represented in medicine.

As a new program, we are seeking applicants who are highly motivated to be active in their own education. Our program is built around resident inclusion and responsiveness. Residents in our program will play a vital role in establishing Rush as one of the top EM residencies in the country. A sense of adventure, a pioneering spirit, and a willingness to help shape the program for future learners – these are all qualities that will be essential to your success as a resident at Rush Emergency Medicine.

hexom_braden_jacketThank you for your interest in Rush. We look forward to welcoming you to Chicago and to our new emergency medicine residency program!
